Air [TNT001] - Various Artists

The first in our VA series inspired by the elements, TNT are proud to present "Air [TNT001]".

At its core, air is the breath of life, the invisible force which sustains all living beings. Weaving through us, it acts as the medium for our first compilation.

Starting with Field Enhancement’s ambient exploration “Unspoken Rules of the Clandestine”, we are given a gauzy entrance to an atmospheric soundscape, opening the album with a sense of optimistic wonder.

Zero Plussed’s “Vignette” provides us with a hazy, meandering take on sound system music, exploring deconstructed dub patterns through broken synth stabs and spiralling drums.

Eerie follows with downtempo club number “Reality Check”, blending bird sounds and mangled foley with distorted baselines and bittersweet synths, leaving us with a touch of nostalgia.

Meilange’s offering “Solace” brings us to a more structured take on dubstep. Reverb drenched vocal samples and heavy basslines, create a contemplative atmosphere that permeates the piece.

“Te Hā a Hine Raukatauri” by Te Manu blends taonga pūoro with the sounds of te ngahere in a heavy dub rooted track. An ode to the atua of traditional Māori musical instruments - Hine Raukatauri, a goddess embodied in the form of the female case-moth.

Junus Orca brings us back to a more minimal vibe with “Immolo”, featuring Naomi Haussmann’s vocals over a pulsing and hypnotic bass. Gently rhythmic and dreamy, the track takes us on a pensive journey through dub-techno influenced territory.

“Dawntreader” by Clare La Mer provides the highest energy moment on the release with an early morning techno offering begging to be played as the sun rises after a long night.

As quickly as it's amassed, the energy melts away into Sano’s “att ligga i det ändlössa håvet”. A lush and melancholic end.
